Magda told me a half-dozen or so countries ago that if two people are walking together and some person walking the opposite direction splits the couple, making them take different paths around the on-walker, the splitter has “stolen their luck.” It’s some superstition thing and something couples should try and avoid – nothing serious though.
Magda, I’m sure, is regretting telling me about it. I’ve taken it upon myself to, as we walk around towns, to try and accumulate as much luck as possible, dragging Magda along with me. I gently, without being obvious, navigate us into the path of another couple. At some point, someone has to decide which way to go. They go around and we steal their luck, I do a fist pump and Magda shakes her head. It’s a fun way to walk actually.
